App: Audio Transcriber Recorder (iOS / jp.cavemen.audiorecorder)
This policy covers the iOS app. The Android app is built differently and handles data differently; see the Android policy for that one.
1. Recordings and video
- Audio recordings, videos, screen recordings, and metadata such as file name, date, length and size are stored on the device only. None of it is sent to our servers automatically.
- Sharing, exporting and saving to the photo library happen only when you ask for them.
2. Transcription
- Recorded files are transcribed by a speech recognition engine that runs on the device (whisper.cpp). Audio is never sent to an external transcription service.
- Speech models are downloaded from Hugging Face (huggingface.co) when you choose one. Only the request for the model is sent; it contains no recorded audio.
- Live transcription uses Apple's speech recognition with on-device recognition required (requiresOnDeviceRecognition). Languages without on-device support cannot be selected.
- Summarising, cleaning up and translating text run on a model on the device. Text is not sent to an external AI service.
3. Ads
- The app is free and uses Google Mobile Ads (AdMob). To deliver and measure ads, device information including the advertising identifier (IDFA) may be sent to Google and its ad partners.
- Where required, Google's consent management (UMP) asks for your consent to ads on first launch.
- The app shows the iOS tracking prompt (ATT). If you decline, ads are shown without personalisation and every feature still works. You can change the choice at any time in the iOS Settings app.
4. Usage data
- The app uses Firebase Analytics and Firebase Remote Config to improve itself.
- What is recorded is which screens were opened, which features were used, and the settings that were chosen.
- The content itself — recorded audio, video, the text of a transcript — is never sent. Neither is anything that identifies you directly, such as a name or an email address.
5. Permissions
- Microphone: recording audio, and the audio track while filming
- Speech recognition: live transcription (on the device)
- Camera: filming video
- Add to photo library: saving filmed video to the photo library, if you turn that setting on
- Tracking: personalised ads (everything works if you decline)
Screen recording uses ReplayKit. On iOS, a recording started from inside an app captures only that app's screen; other apps are not recorded.
6. Everything that leaves the device
- Google (AdMob): device information including the advertising identifier — when an ad is shown
- Google (Firebase): which screens and features were used, and the settings chosen — while the app is used
- Hugging Face: a request for a model file — when you download a model
Recordings, video and transcript text are in none of the above.
7. Disclosure to third parties
We never provide recordings or transcripts to third parties, other than in response to a legally binding request for disclosure, or where there is an urgent need to protect life, physical safety or property.
8. How long data is kept
Recordings, video and transcripts stay on the device until you delete them. Removing the app deletes them as well. We never keep them on our servers.
9. Children's privacy
The app is not directed primarily at children, and follows the ad providers' policies on age.
10. Your choices
- Microphone, camera, photos, speech recognition and tracking permissions can each be changed at any time in the iOS Settings app.
- Recordings, video and transcripts can be deleted from inside the app at any time.
- Removing the app ends the processing of the data on your device.
